Special constellations in March

KUMBHA MELA

The Kumbha Mela is a huge spiritual festival held every three years at one of the four holy pilgrimage destinations: Haridwar, Nashik, Allahabad and Ujjain, over a 12-year cycle.

The dates for the pilgrimage and particular processions and rituals conducted at the Kumbha Mela are determined according to planetary movements, which are indicated on the Vikram Samvat lunar calendar, the traditional Vedic calendar used in India.

This year the Kumbha Mela takes place in Haridwar, at the foothills of the Himalayas, where millions of people are gathering with the intention of taking a sacred dip in the holy River Ganga (Ganges).

After a long stay in Europe, Vishwaguruji has departed again for India and travelled to Haridwar to participate in this most sacred event, on behalf of the Yoga in Daily Life lineage – Sri Alakhpuriji Siddha Peeth Parampara.

Due to the current global situation with Covid-19, fewer people are taking part this year and extra precautions and requirements are being implemented by the local organisers of the event site, in order to maintain the health and safety of all pilgrims.

MAHASHIVARATRI

The Vedic lunar month of Phalguna (February/March) is very auspicious, not only because of this year's Kumbha Mela but also the celebration of Mahashivaratri, when yoga practitioners, and spiritual aspirants remember and pay reverence to God Shiva, the Lord of Yoga, who represents the Supreme Consciousness itself through which one can attain liberation from the suffering of material life.

According to the lunar calendar, Mahashivaratri is celebrated on the day, and all through the night, before the new moon day (Amavasya) in this month, which in 2021, is on the 11th of March.

You can watch this video about the Mahashivaratri on the Yoga in Daily Life YouTube channel.
