In February 2015 His Excellency Shri Param Jit Mann, Indian ambassador in Slovakia, spent several days with Yoga in Daily Life members from Martin and other parts of Europe. “Yoga is an ancient philosophy, a discipline and a way of life which has stood the test of time for more than 2 000 years. It is a path to self-realization, spirituality and peace,“ he said.

People of Slovak and neighbouring regions were participating in spiritual activities since antiquity. The majority of them lived simply, they tried to live in harmony with nature, they were practically vegetarians, many of them prayed, practiced meditations etc. New revival and growth of this activities and way of life began especially after coming of His Holiness Paramhans Swami Maheshwaranandaji (Vishwaguruji), author of the Yoga in Daily Life system, to Europe. Since the beginning of the 1970s he has led numerous public lectures and international yoga retreats in Central-European countries, including this region. Today yoga helps hundreds of people from Martin and surroundings to improve their everyday life.

Since 20th to 22nd February, 2015, his Excellency had cordial meetings with many representatives of this area. He visited Martin as well as Turčianske Teplice, the famous spa. In Martin he was cordially hosted by the vice-mayor and his staff. He saw the Slovak National Library with the only Gandhiji’s manuscript and the only complete set of the Vedas in Slovakia, local Gandhi Street, several Peace Trees and Yoga in Daily Life centers.

On 21st February, during the 5th International Vegetarian Ball, under the presence of almost 200 fans and well-wishers of India, yoga and vegetarianism from several countries, Mr. Ambassador was granted the Certificate of Merit, dedicated to India as a world cradle of compassion towards all the living beings.

During his stay Mr. Ambassador discussed with YiDL representatives his/their experiences with yoga as well. “Yoga In Daily Life has been doing the invaluable work of spreading the awareness and practice of yoga in Slovakia for more than 3 decades,“ he said. „I had the good fortune of seeing the establishments being run by Yoga in Daily Life. I wish them all the best in their noble endeavour.“
