submnu

This year's World Peace Summit is to be held in New Zealand’s capital, Wellington. It is the first such event in New Zealand, but one of a series of international leadership forums focused on achieving peace, justice, tolerance, and an environmentally sustainable world. The event will take place during March 29 – 30, 2008 at Westpac St James Theatre in Wellington.

The initiator of the Summit is His Holiness Mahamandaleshwar Paramhans Swami Maheshwarananda, founder of Yoga in Daily Life, who will be the keynote speaker. Swamiji’s stay in New Zealand (March 24 – 30, 2008) will include also many other programmes – satsangs, public lectures and yoga & meditation workshops.

The Summit will be titled “Climate Change – What to Do?” and will deal with climate change, its causes, issues and possible solutions. It will cover:

  • the interconnectedness of our world
  • global and national factors creating climate change
  • the key issues for New Zealand - energy, agriculture, business, sustainable consumerism, and our role in the world
  • sustainable solutions at an international, national, local and personal level

At the conclusion of the Summit, all participants will be invited to sign an affirmative Declaration, which will be presented to the United Nations World Environment Day conference being held in Wellington on June 5, 2008.
